From remote villages to cosmopolitan cities, Salt of the Earth scours the globe to buy unique and wonderful items. Whether they express their creativity through painting, working metal, carving wood, blowing glass, or shaping ceramics, our artisans are all recognized as leaders in their craft.
Their pieces reflect that mastery in every brushstroke and copper detail, every tiny flower and stitch of thread. The artist's individual, artistic, and cultural histories and traditions further enhance each beautiful piece. We cherish the artists as much as the work they create for us. While all of our pieces are beautiful or fun or adorably quirky, it is their stories that makes them so special to us. In many cases, these crafts are dying or endangered. Artists are often forced to give up their craft for a more lucrative trade, or the pressure of foreign competition has compromised some artisans' ability to market their work. Even worse are the derivative pieces that have been sourced in Europe and Mexico and then replicated at a fraction of the cost elsewhere.
